The Red Flags of Carelessness: 4 Ways You’re Gonna Break Your Phone Unknowingly
Phones have become more important than they used to be. Their use is no longer limited to communication. Nowadays, they’re utilized for running a business, tracking healthy practices, and even paying for groceries. It’s so useful, that you can’t leave the house without it.
When you first got your phone, you held it like a baby (admit it). You carried it like it was delicate, the same as you would if it was made of glass. But as you got to use it more, you got comfortable. That cautiousness is gone. Suddenly, you start to drop your phone more or shove it down your pocket with your keys in them. You don’t notice these slight changes.
The last thing you want is your phone breaking down right when you need it the most. When you’re up and about with your day, you don’t really notice the little red flags.
Keep Away From Liquids
You wouldn’t consciously put your phone in water. But there are times when you don’t notice how water can get into your phone.
Some people like to put their phones in the cupholder while driving. Instinctively putting your phone there can be a big mistake. The thing is drinks, especially cold ones, can make a little pool of water at the bottom of the cupholder. This is just one of the sneaky little ways water can get into your phone. When you have any drink with you, be sure to be mindful of where you’re placing it. We often fail to do so especially when our phones have become an extension of our hands.
Got Any Spare Change?
When on the go, where do you shove your phone? That’s right, your pocket. It that has your car keys and some spare change. Because of the tight space, it’s inevitable that everything that’s already in your pocket will rub against the screen of your phone. Nobody wants a scratched screen.
The back pocket of your jeans isn’t any better. Let’s say, nothing’s in it. There won’t be anything scratching against your screen. But when you sit down with it, it might just bend your phone. As much as it feels like a strong, puny block, it’s nothing compared to your weight. Remember, a bent phone is irreversible. There’s no repair for that3.
Don’t Skimp On Your Charger.
Don’t go for the cheaper route. You might think it’s not doing any harm, at least you don’t notice it but it actually is. A faulty charger doesn’t discharge the right amount of power your phone actually needs. It’s just wearing your phone’s battery down quicker.
If you’re thinking about getting an off-brand to save some bucks, you’re going to end up spending more for repair than if you bought manufacturer-certified in the first place. Off-brand chargers can damage your charger port due to voltage fluctuations. It’s not that different from your broken charger.
Throw it out and get a new one. All the more if it’s started to fray and the wires are getting exposed. That’s a hazard that could lead to other problems.
Installing Apps From Dubious Sources.
Have you browsed through any apps lately? If you’ve come by some sketchy-looking ones, maybe they actually are. We all have a mental picture of how a virus-carrying app might look like, but it’s always safer to double-check online. Be sure to do some research before downloading an app (unless it’s from a reputable source).
The pandemic has increased digital traffic as everyone’s stuck at home with nothing much to do. Naturally, people turn to their phones for entertainment. Because of the surge in traffic, there is a heightened risk of digital fraud.
Viruses can eat up your phone’s processing power. It makes it heat up faster, damaging the CPU process. If this doesn’t sound bad enough, there are more malicious viruses out there. This kind of makes your phone unable to function completely or even leak private info.
These are little red flags you might not notice but can make a huge difference. Just as you have a preferred computer repair service provider, you should have one for your phone, too. Phones are like mini computers. They need some looking after and a little TLC here and there. One way or another you’re going to have to pay for maintenance, upgrades, and repairs.
Most importantly, don’t scrimp on phone repairs. But before it even gets there, change your habits and be more conscious of where you use or leave your phone.
